Welcome to the MusicFirst Classroom!
This online program is used to help support music teachers and students with resources, different software tools, a calendar, and a gradebook. Students will be completing assignments or simply viewing lessons in class, depending on what their music teacher has in mind. Here are a couple basics about getting started.
Logging In
Every MusicFirst Classroom has been setup with a custom website. This must be used to access the MusicFirst Classroom. If you’re not sure of your website’s URL, check with your teacher. Your teacher should have provided you with a username and password to use once you reach the login screen. If you’re having any trouble with usernames or passwords, please contact your teacher.
Devices
Using an iPad or iPhone? Make sure the MusicFirst Student App is downloaded and students are using their username, password, and custom website URL to login.
Students will ONLY need to login to the MusicFirst Student App and access assignments from within the MusicFirst Classroom.
Using an Android phone or tablet? Make sure students are logging in using the Google Chrome browser.
Using a laptop, desktop, or Chromebook? Students must use the Google Chrome browser for these devices.
User Guide and Tutorials
Students have access to a User Guide and Tutorials designed just for them. You can find all these resources underneath the “?” in the top right corner of the MusicFirst Classroom. All the Tutorials are videos and the User Guide includes written (text and image) instructions.
Students: Completing a PracticeFirst Task
In your Class Overview, you will see you have an assignment. Once you click on it, you should be taken to a page that looks like this:
By clicking on “Open in PracticeFirst,” you will be redirected to your exercise. Make sure to check the task description for any additional materials your teacher may have provided you.
If there are more than one instrument/vocal type, you can select one in the upper right. If your teacher has assigned a sight-reading exercise, you will not be able to use the playback before you record. If you have been assigned a memorization exercise, the score will not be visible once you record. A normal exercise always allows you to hear the playback and see the score at all times.
Once you have recorded, it will show you a visual of how you did throughout the exercise, as well as your scores in Pitch, Rhythm, Length Played, and Overall. You teacher might have assigned a grade threshold to meet. You can retry as many times as you would like.
Once you are satisfied with your score, you can click “Submit” and then “OK” to confirm. You should be redirected back to your MusicFirst Classroom to signify that your performance has been successfully submitted. You are all done!
